Art and History
as an Enduring  Force

Daniel Lee's "vocation of passion" is exploring faith, history and increasingly art and literature. His longtime interest in Indianapolis native and sports pioneer Marshall "Major" Taylor, 1899 world sprint cycling champion, has been the subject of many of this efforts.

Daniel helped lead the effort to have a mural of cycling legend Marshall "Major" Taylor in his hometown of Indianapolis. He also is the founder and organizer of the Anthony J. Bridgeman Lecture on Sports and Society at the Indiana State Museum in honor of his late friend.

Over the two years of the Bridgeman lecture, Lee partnered with the Indiana State Museum, the Indianapolis Indians, and received a grant from Indiana Humanities. He hopes to bring the Bridgeman lecture back.

In addition, during his time as a board member of the US Bicycling Hall of Fame, he worked with the Indiana State Museum for the HOF in Davis, CA, to loan Taylor's racing bicycle and autobiography to the Indiana State Museum for its 2022 exhibit on Taylor.

My approach with The WordPreserve™ is rooted in reading. One of my favorite books is “The Education of a Wandering Man” by Louis L’Amour, the prolific writer of Westerns. This is a memoir where he tells of his coming of age by traveling, working on ranches, boxing and reading hundreds of books. I tried to take the same approach in middle age and hope to the coming years share my love of books through programs especially aimed at young people.

Here is a list of many of the books I have read in the past several years….
